Cheap Flights to MelbourneMelbourne is full of things to do, see, taste and hear! A great way to see the city and get a good meal at the same time is to take the "best of Melbourne tour" on the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. This 1927 tram has been restored and converted to a rolling restaurant which is now one of the leading attractions in Melbourne. Guests can dine in comfort, since the tram is fitted with shock absorbers so that not even a glass will shake during the tour. This is a first-class restaurant that prepares all its food on the tram and specializes in a cozy, friendly atmosphere that keeps people coming back for more. While eating, patrons can see the city at a leisurely pace and get to know some of its main sights. The Melbourne Zoo is one of the oldest and most respected zoos in the world. Visitors can see animals in bio-climatic environments that mimic their natural homes and learn about the Lowland Gorilla breeding program in which the zoo has taken a leading role. In addition to the animals, there are also twilight jazz concerts to delight the ears. There are cheap flights to Tullamarine airport (just 30 mins from the zoo) from most cities within Australia. The Melbourne Aquarium is another popular stop. Here visitors can see realistic recreations of water environments such as a mangrove swamp, a coral reef and deep sea territory. An undersea tunnel lets visitors see the world from a fish's point of view, with sharks whizzing by just inches away. The culmination of the tour is a ride in a simulator that shows how it feels to be a fish. More nature can be seen at the Royal Botanic Gardens. This institution has a world-class collection of plants from all around the world as well as numerous birds and other creatures. There are tours such as the Aboriginal Heritage Walk and the Night Sky Experience as well as holiday and educational programs for children. During the summer there is Moonlight Cinema. Admission is free. For those who prefer a different kind of fun, the Ian Potter Centre is holding an exhibition called "Australian Made: 100 Years of Fashion." Here you can learn about the history of the Australian fashion industry from the 1850's to the 1950's and see items from the National Gallery of Victoria's textile collection. The exhibit runs through 23rd January 2011, and the hours are from 10am to 5pm every day except Monday. Admission is free. |
